What motivates me?

Motivation is everywhere! We can draw on things around us, our own experiences, even the right music can get us riled up and ready to take our next few steps with purpose.

Sometimes the goal itself and the things that will bring is enough motivation. Now, in all honesty, I believe some people are generally more motivated than others. However, as is the case when I talk about genetics and getting a certain level of strength, or a certain physique, we can do things to get the most benefit when trying to stay motivated and on track with our life goals. I like to explain this as a three layer system.

The bigger your buy in, the bigger the impact of that motivation. We have seen this in movies for years. Rocky Balboa only ever trained hard enough and fought back with everything he had once he was emotionally invested in it. Superman was only able to defeat the toughest, smartest villain even post Kryptonite when he knew it was now or never, all or nothing time.

Now I’m not saying with a clear goal that you want bad enough and a fired up track on your MP3 player, you can beat clubber Lang, or save the world from General Zod. However wanting something enough is a great base for achieving your own goals.

I’m not just talking about fitness or gym based goals here either. Whatever you want in life, if you want it bad enough you will be more motivated to make it happen.

Relating to this goal, by the thing that has you emotionally invested will continue to drive you forward and this gives you that secondary big push. On the days where you may start to falter or feel you can’t do this, it’s those extra little things that keep that motivation in the here and now. The music, the photo of you a year ago on holiday that you look at on your phone on the way to the gym.

Maybe its business related, that third knock back from the Bank, where you keep that letter and read it before you set off to make that final successful pitch. This is that third phase.

The final part that makes you focus on now, what do I need to achieve today to make tomorrow a success.

I don’t want to push this any further, due to the fact that we could dissect this for eternity and no one wants to read a blog that long.

Push Yourself

Hopefully this has given you enough to think about to stay on track and I will be doing a video soon that will give you some examples of how to stay properly motivated.
